Triton defeats Golden Gate to claim CPL title

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Triton International College qualified for the College Premier League that is to be held in Bangalore, India from third week of January after beating Golden Gate International College by 8 wickets in Nepal Qualifiers final today at Tribhuwan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

Triton winning the toss invited Paras Khadka led Golden Gate to bat first but the decent performance from Triton Bowlers restricted Golden Gate to a low total of 80 runs in 16.3 overs. Rom Shrestha was the top scorer with 30 runs while Sagar Pun was the only other to make a double digit score with 15 runs. Basanta Regmi took three wickets, Rupesh Shrivastav ad Niraj Basnet claimed two wickets each while Shakti Gauchan got one for Triton.

In reply, Triton chased the target easily with eight wickets in hand. Opening duo Binod Bhandari and Amit Shrestha put up a partnership of 40 runs before Shrestha was caight by Paras off Sanjam for 11 runs. Man of the match Bhandari was caught as second wicket for 51 runs at the team total of 66. Bhandari played 30 balls and hit seven fours and two sixes. Indra Kamal Manandhar and Manjeet Shrestha remained unbeaten at 10 and 8 runs respectively. Sanjam Regmi got the only two wickets for Golden Gate.

There were no cash prizes. Rajesh Pulami from Kantipur City College was adjudged best batsman and player of the tournament. Pulami had scored 200 runs in three matches while taken two wickets with the economy of 5.90. Basanta Regmi from Golden Gate was announced best bowler with eight wickets from two matches.

Triton will now play the College Premier League in Bangalore, India where other colleges from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and UAE will participate.

Nepal qualifiers was organized by Jain University, Bangalore in association with Indian Edicational Services, Kathmandu.
