U-19 boys upset APF in practice match

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: CAN U-19, which comprise cricketers under closed camp training for the upcoming ACC U-19 Elite Cup, defeated Nepal APF Club by two wickets in a practice match played at the Pulchowk Cricket Ground on Monday.

APF Club, studded with national cricketers, won the toss and elected to bat first.

CAN U-19 bowled out APF for 179 in 42.1 overs and successfully chased the total in 46.4 overs losing eight wickets.

Avinash Karn bowled Paresh Lohani and Krishna Karki sent another opener Sanjay Shrestha back to the pavilion in ducks. APF were 2/2 in the third over of the innings. Dipendra Chaudhary and skipper Paras Khadka tried to build up the innings. Chaudhary struck 29 runs before Sagar Pun trapped him run out.

Karki again bowled out Ashok Singh to spoil APF´s build up. Bhuwan Karki took the wicket of Captain Khadka (21 runs). In the middle overs, Rahul BK claimed three wickets of Durga Kunwar, Sharad Vesawkar and Sunam Gautam.

However, Gyanendra Malla (36 runs) and Basant Regmi (27 runs) took APF toward the respectable total with No 11 Rom Shrestha´s contribution of unbeaten 24 runs. Bibek Dali has claimed the wickets of Malla and Regmi to wrap of the APF innings.

In reply, Faizal Rehman Khan (33 runs), Naresh Budhayer (41 runs) and Prithu Baskota (37 runs) sailed CAN U-19 to the victory (181/8 in 46.4 overs). Sunam Gautam and Sanjam Regmi took two wickets each for APF but the team of national cricketers could not stop the rookies U-19 boys.

U-19 cricketers are undergoing a closed camp training for the ACC U-19 Elite Cup scheduled to be held in Bangkok from February 1-10.
