What happened when Nepal and Netherlands last met in the T20I Tri-nation series final?

Nepal and the Netherlands are all set to fight for the title of the T20I Triangular series between Nepal, Netherlands and Namibia. The match will be played on March 5 (Tuesday) at TU Cricket Ground.

The Netherlands topped the table with five points whereas Nepal finished second with four points. Similarly, Namibia finished at the bottom with three points.

The final on Tuesday marks the 12th meeting between Nepal and the Netherlands in T20I. In their previous encounters, both teams have secured victory in five matches each, and one game was unfortunately affected by rain and declared a washout.

What happened when Nepal and the Netherlands last met in the T20I tri-nation series final in Nepal?

Nepal, Netherlands and Malaysia engaged in the T20I tri-nation series in April 2021. Nepal and the Netherlands secured a place in the final sidelining Malaysia. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh played their debut T20I match during the series.

Invited to bat first, Nepal posted 238/3 in the allotted 20 over. It was Nepal’s highest T20I total until they scored 314 against Mongolia in September 2023.

Kushal Bhurtel scored 77 runs from 53 balls. However, the duo of Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla did more damage. They added 75 runs for the fourth wicket from just 26 balls. Airee scored 18-ball 48* whereas Malla hammered 24-ball 50*.

In response, the Dutch side were wrapped up for a mere 96 runs in 17.2 overs. Karan KC was the standout bowler grabbing three wickets. Sandeep Lamichhane and Kamal Singh Airee also pocketed two wickets each.

The 142-run win in that match was Nepal’s biggest T20I win until they rattled Mongolia by 273 runs. Kushal Bhurtel scored 278 runs in that series scoring four half-centuries in five matches.
