Women’s U-19 team leaves for Kuwait

Kathmandu – Nepali U-19 women’s cricket team left Kathmandu on Tuesday to participate in the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship scheduled to be held in Kuwait from February 3 to 10.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) bode farewell to the 17 member team headed by vice president of CAN Keshav Ghimire on Sunday amidst a function at Youth and Sports Ministry, Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu. Honorable Minister from Youth and Sports Ministry Kamala Roka, President of CAN Tanka Angbuhang and other CAN committee members attended the event and shared the best wishes to the team.

“We are the defending champions of the tournament. So we should definitely look up to win the title. Its not easy though. This time the level of competition is high and we have got new faces in the team. We can never know what happens. But yes, we are looking for the title” said the coach Nabin Singh during the farewell program. Singh is leading the national team for the first time.

Minister Roka wished the team a good luck and wished for the third title in a row. “Concentrate on your game. The team has already got some good records for us. So keep on with that. Give your 100 percent,” said Roka.

The president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Tanka Nabuhang said ,”Keep up the spirit of winning. I know the team is very good. If you can contirbute in your part, the title is not so far.” Angbuhang wished the team to get the glory again.

Nepal is the two time champions and is looking forward for the title third time in a row. Earlier, Nepal won ACC U-19 championship in 2008 in Thailand and won the trophy again in 2010 in Singapore.

The Nepali U-19 team led by captain Rubina Chhetri is grouped along with China, Malaysia, UAE and Thailand for the 25 overs per side tournament. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi finals.

Nepal is playing China on February 3 before taking on Malaysia on February 4. Nepal will lock horns with UAE on February 5 and Thailand on Febraury 7.
