Zimbabwe crash out of the race for the Cricket World Cup 2023 spot

Zimbabwe’s hopes of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup 2023 have been shattered after suffering a defeat against Scotland in a crucial qualifying match held at Queens Sports Club. The host team’s loss has officially confirmed that they will miss out on the main event, ensuring the participation of at least one Associate team in the upcoming World Cup in India.

Scotland, displaying a strong performance, batted first and posted a fighting total of 234 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. With their bowlers putting up a spirited effort, Zimbabwe struggled to mount a successful chase and were ultimately bowled out for 203 runs in 41.1 overs, falling short by 31 runs.

Zimbabwe has faced disappointment in their quest for a World Cup spot for two consecutive times. In the Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018, Zimbabwe missed out on participation in the Cricket World Cup 2019 after a crucial loss to the UAE.

Sri Lanka has already secured their place in the World Cup 2023. The defeat suffered by Zimbabwe guarantees that an Associate team will make an appearance in the prestigious tournament.

Scotland currently has six points, while the Netherlands have four points. These two sides will face each other in their final match. Only one of these two sides will be able to secure a coveted spot in the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

With Zimbabwe’s exit from the race, cricket fans around the world eagerly await the outcome of the remaining matches to determine which Associate team will join the cricketing giants in the Cricket World Cup 2023.
