Nepal starts T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier with a comfortable win over Singapore

The Nepalese Cricket Team are off to a flying start in the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Nepal registered a comfortable eight-wicket win over Singapore at TU Cricket Ground on Monday in the opening match of the tournament.

Chasing an average target of 146, Nepal completed a target in 16.3 overs losing just a couple of wickets. Kushal Bhurtel was the star of the chase with a brilliant 74 runs. He smacked eight fours and two sixes in a 48-ball inning.

The other opener Aasif Sheikh scored 27 runs from 26 balls while skipper Rohit Paudel remained unbeaten for 24-ball 35 hammering two fours and sixes each. Kushal Malla finished things with a first-ball six.

Earlier, Singapore managed to post 145/9 on the board after opting to bat first. They lost a wicket in the second ball before Rohan Rangarajan boosted the score with a 30-ball 46 runs. A swift fall of wickets after that saw Singapore crumble for an average total. Aryaveer Chaudhary scored a valuable 26-ball 37.

Abinash Bohara despite conceding 22 runs in the first over ended up as Nepal’s successful bowler as he grabbed three wickets sharing 43 runs from four overs (4-1-43-3). Karan KC, Gulshan Jha and Sandeep Lamichhane also picked up two wickets each.

Nepal will play the second match against Malaysia on October 31 (Tuesday) at TU Cricket Ground.
