Sri Lanka confirms a spot in the super 12

Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup 2022 champions, Sri Lanka has made their way through the super 12 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. After being stunned by Namibia in the first match, Sri Lanka defeated UAE and the Netherlands to confirm their seat.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands, being victorious in the first two matches, now has to wait for the result of Namibia vs UAE. If Namibia defeats the UAE, then they march ahead else the Netherlands will go forward.

Opting to bat first at Simonds Stadium, Sri Lanka piled up an average total of 162, with Opener Kusal Mendis solely scoring almost half of the team’s total. Mendis scored 79 from 44 balls (smashing 5 sixes and 5 fours) before being dismissed in the final over. van Meekeren and Bas de Leede grabbed a couple of wickets each for the Netherlands.
