A meeting of Cricket Association of Nepal CAN’s executive body today will discuss on Pubudu’s term extension. Pubudu Dassanayake 2 year term as Nepal’s coach is going to expire on 31st March.
Kantipur today reported that Tanka Aangbuhang the president of CAN wishes to extend Pubudu’s term by 2 years. However CAN is still divided over the issue-CAN’s delay in even discussing about the extension is an evidence of just that. Pubudu( and Paras) have time and again given heavy remarks about CAN’s (lack of) work.Several media have now revealed that few of the Pubudu remarks and even the result oriented working has bruised many CAN members’ ego and they want to show him the exit door.
Dassanayake who scripted one of the most successful in Nepal’s sports history took over Nepal team when it was in Division 4. Under Dassanayake’s coaching Nepal won 2 ICC Titiles, were crowned the Asian Associate Champs, played 3 Global Qualifiers, secured a world cup berth and then served an impressive performance in T20 World Cup.
Pubudu Dassnayake is one of the finest coach in associate circuits. Nepali Cricketers take him like a father figure. “It would be moronic to let him go”, says CAN source who is siding on increasing Pubudu’s term.
Even if the executive members agree to add few years to Pubudu’s tenure it will only be a proposal from CAN’s side. The bigger question then is if Pubudu accepts the proposal. After return from Bangladesh Pubudu had explained that he would work with the national side provided CAN’s behavior changes.
