India clinches eighth Asia Cup title with dominant victory over Sri Lanka

In a spectacular display of cricketing prowess, India secured their eighth Asia Cup with a dominant win against Sri Lanka at RPS, Colombo. The match, which will be remembered for its one-sided nature, saw India emerge victorious by ten wickets.

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka’s hopes were dashed as they were bowled out for a mere 50 runs. The hero of the day for India was none other than the sensational Mohammed Siraj, who proved to be a nightmare for the Sri Lankan batters. Siraj’s spellbinding performance saw him bag six wickets, including a remarkable four wickets in a single over. By the end of the sixth over, Sri Lanka was reeling at a meagre 12/6.

Besides Siraj’s heroic efforts (7-1-21-6), Hardik Pandya also made a significant contribution, claiming three crucial wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with one wicket to further strengthen India’s grip on the match.

In response to Sri Lanka’s feeble total, India chased it down in a mere 6.1 overs without losing a single wicket. The Indian opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill showcased their batting strength, with Kishan scoring 23 runs off 18 balls and Gill contributing a brisk 27 off 19 balls.

Siraj was adjudged player of the match while Kuldeep Yadav who grabbed nine wickets in the tournament was given player of the tournament.

The Asia Cup 2023 was played in a Hybrid model with four matches being played in Pakistan and the rest in Sri Lanka.
