Mumbai — Paras Khadka, the captain of the Nepal national team foresees positives from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to his country.
Speaking exclusively from Kathmandu, he says, “the Hon. Prime Minister’s visit to Nepal was amazing and diplomatically it went well. Hope cricket can also benefit from this visit”.
“India being the mecca of cricket if BCCI opens doors for Nepal Cricket, cricket will attain new heights in our nation. Bangladesh got Test status with the support of the Indian cricket board. Likewise, we hope Nepal cricket will benefit in future”.
Nepal’s sports minister (Purshottam Paudyal) was not in the country and the Nepal captain, though was very enthusiast, could not meet Modi.
“The PM had a very busy schedule in his limited-time visit and so more that regret, let us hope I can meet him later”, he added.
“If there has been any opportunity, I would have explained him about the cricket structure here, and would have asked him what needs to be done about cricket development and also requested him to coordinate Nepal and India cricket ties”, Khadka added.
“As in we just got Twenty 20 status, if we can ignite this status through India help and that would help Nepal cricket reach great heights”, he added.
“We have time for the Test status. We still need to perform better as a team and then things will follow slowly”, the captain concluded.
