Malaysia set 236 runs target against Nepal

Malaysia managed to put up 235 runs after registering a century partnership between Virandeep Singh and captain Ahmad Faiz in the first match of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup being held in Kathmandu.

Malaysia won the toss and elected to bat at the Tribhuvan University ground in Kirtipur and posted a good total losing nine wickets. Ahmad Faiz top scored with 76 runs from 95 balls while Virandeep fell just short of the half-century for 46 runs from 94 balls. They managed to put in 116 runs for the second wicket after the loss of their opener Muhammad Amir for 17 runs.

Sandeep Lamichhane broke the partnership by removing Faiz and Rajbanshi dismissed Virandeep, Nepal slowed things down in the middle, however, the lower-ordered batters Malaysia also chipped in and put up a fighting total at the end.

Vijay Unni (12), Syed Aziz (13) and Muhamad Syahadat (15) and Khizar Hayat (22) contributed four boundaries and two sixes to the total. Towards the end,  Syazrul Idrus’s blistering knock of 21 runs from 13 deliveries including one four and two sixes made sure the total crossed 200.

Lalit Rajbanshi managed two wickets from his ten overs (10-0-34-2), and Sompal Kami (9-0-40-3) and Sandeep Lamichhane (10-1-48-3) grabbed three wickets each. Gulshan Jha picked up one wicket at the start of the innings.
