Alam all-round show ensures resounding win

Kathmandu – Region 1 (Biratnagar) routed Region 7 (Janakpur) by 8 wickets to win their second match of the ongoing Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament 2015 at T.U Ground, Kirtipur today.

R1 Biratnagar 167-2 (24.2 ov) defeated R7 Janakpur 161-10 (42.3 ov) by 8 wickets

As Biratnagar invited Janakpur to bat after they won the toss, their opening bowlers Manjeet Shrestha and Mehboob Alam gave the early break-through. Janakpur’s top order once again failed the pressure in the tournament as they were restricted to 5-57 in 21.0 overs. However, their low-order batsmen managed to take the score to 161 runs before they were bowled out in 42.3 overs.

Kundan Singh top scored with 32(48) while Sumit Chandra Dev 26(41), Chandan Jha 18(37), Hari Shankar Sah 16(41) & Sushant Mandal 11(8) were the other scorers. Opener Rahul Pratap Singh and Himanshu Dutta were dismissed for a duck.

Md. Hazrat Ali (10-0-34-3) got three wickets while Alam (7.3-1-27-2), Shrestha (7-2-23-2) and Lakpa Lama (5-0-25-2) shared two wickets each.

During the second innings, R1’s openers Sunny Pun and Avinash Karna compiled 31 runs partnership before Sunny Pun dismissed Pun for 14 (15) runs. Karna 23(30) was bowled by Sushant Mandal in 10.5 overs. Once the openers were dismissed, Mehboob Alam 68*(49) and Pushpa Thapa 42*(55) shared an unbeaten partnership of 88 runs for the third wicket to secure an resounding win in just 24.2 overs. Alam scored his half-century off 41 balls.

For his all-round performance in the match today, Mehboob Alam was adjudged Man of the Match. He received a gift hamper by Donear.
