Nepal books a spot in the semifinal after a win against Qatar

The Nepalese women’s team have booked a spot in the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Region Qualifier. Nepal thrashed Qatar by nine wickets to ensure a fourth consecutive win in the tournament.

Nepal’s last group stage match against UAE is likely to confirm the table topper. UAE has six points from three matches, whilst Nepal has eight points from four matches.

Group A’s leader will face the runner-up of Group B, while Group A’s runner-up will play against Group B’s table topper. Two finalists will book a spot in the global qualifier of the mega event.

The Nepalese team restricted Qatar to 74/7 in 20 overs after inviting them to bat first at the UKM-YSD Cricket Oval, Bangi. Saachi Dhadwaal top scored with 21 runs. Aleena Khan and Angeline Mare also contributed 15 and 14* runs, respectively.

For Nepal, Indu Barma was the pick of a bowler, grabbing three wickets. She conceded just ten runs from four overs. Puja Mahato and Kabita Joshi also grabbed one wicket each.

In response, Nepal chased the target in 10.3 overs, losing just one wicket. Kajal Shrestha scored the highest 28-ball 32 runs. Indu Barma smacked 12-ball 20* while Sita Rana Magar also added 17 runs.
