Nepal starts Quadrangular T20I series with a win against Hong Kong

The Nepalese national women’s team have registered a win in their first match of the Quadrangular T20I series. Nepal defeated Hong Kong women by six wickets with 25 balls spare.

Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kuwait are playing a T20I Quadrangular series ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Earlier, Malaysia defeated Kuwait by eight wickets in the rain-halted clash (five overs each contest).

Chasing a target of 85 runs, Nepal reached the feat in 15.5 overs, losing four wickets. Samjhana Khadka top scored with an unbeaten 36 runs. She scored five boundaries in 36 balls. Debutant Puja Mahato, who opened the inning, scored 16 runs (from 18 balls). Rubina Chhetri also scored a sluggish 10-run (from 20 balls).

Earlier, Nepal bowled out Hong Kong for 84 runs. Invited to bat first, Hong Kong women were wrapped up in 19.1 overs at Bayuemas Oval.

Sita Rana Magar was the standout bowler with a fifer. She conceded 16 runs from her four-over spell and pocketed five wickets. The left-arm bowler picked up two wickets each in her final two overs.

Indu Berma pocketed a couple of wickets whilst Kabita Kunwar, skipper Rubina Chhetri and debutant Puja Mahato (3-1-5-1) picked up one wicket each.

Ka Ying Chan was the lone fighter for Hong Kong as she top-scored with 34 runs from 29 balls. Shing Yan Dorothea Chan scored sluggish 16 runs while other batters couldn’t cross a double-digit score.
