Year 2023 in particular turned out to be a successful and progressive year for Nepal Cricket. From starting with 11 wins (out of 12) to the qualification to the T20 World Cup after ten years. They notched up various achievements and bagged numerous milestones in their journey.

ODI

5. Bhim Sharki 

Innings – 14, Runs – 416, Highest Score – 77*, Average – 34.66

Bhim Sharki ended up as the fifth-highest run-scorer for Nepal in ODI in the year 2023. Lately, Bhim was regularly backed as the no.3 batter. He played a match-winning knock against UAE in the final of the ACC Premier Cup.

4. Rohit Paudel

Innings – 21, Runs – 529, HS – 95*, Average – 26.45

Skipper Rohit Paudel had a tough time in foreign conditions. However, Paudel was top-notch on the home surface. He scored 529 runs from 21 matches. His 95* against Scotland helped Nepal snatch a vital win from the jaws of defeat.

3. Kushal Malla

Innings – 20, Runs – 549, HS – 108, Average – 30.50

Kushal Malla had a fascinating 2023. He smacked 31 sixes – the highest by any Nepali batter. Malla scored a ton in 59 balls against Oman in the ACC Premier Cup match and recorded the fastest ODI ton for Nepal.

2. Kushal Bhurtel 

Innings – 21, Runs – 590, HS – 115, Average -28.09

Kushal Bhurtel scored 590 runs from 21 matches in 2023. His 115 against Namibia was the highest individual score by a Nepali batter in 2023. He also smashed the highest number of fours (65).

1. Aasif Sheikh

Innings – 20, Runs – 595, HS – 110, Average – 33.05

Aasif-Kushal, the opening duo ended up in the top two spots of the ODI’s highest run-getter. Aasif scored 595 runs from 20 matches. He played plenty of vital knocks including a half-century against India in the Asia Cup.

T20I

5. Dipendra Singh Airee

Innings – 7, Runs – 241, Highest Score – 57, Average – 60.25, Strike Rate – 211.40

Despite batting on only seven innings, DS Airee finished inside the top five. Airee scored the fastest-ever 50 in T20I when he hammered a nine-ball half-century against Mongolia. Airee is the only Nepali batter with 1000+ T20I runs.

4. Aasif Sheikh

Innings – 13, Runs – 320, HS – 64*, Average – 26.66, SR – 113.87

Aasif Sheikh scored 320 runs from 13 matches. He scored a 64* against UAE in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier which helped Nepal return to the WC after ten years. His SR is a concern in T20I.

3. Kushal Bhurtel

Innings – 13, Runs – 342, HS – 74, Average – 26.30, SR – 180.30

Kushal Bhurtel scored 342 runs from 13 matches. He is questioned for his inconsistency but his aggressive nature helps the team get into a flying start. He has a terrific record at TU Ground in T20I.

2. Kushal Malla

Innings – 12, Runs – 402, HS – 137*, Average – 44.66, SR – 193.26

Kushal Malla notched up 402 runs from 12 innings. He scored both ODI and T20I ton in 2023. He also became the fastest T20I centurion after completing a ton in 34 balls against Mongolia. Malla hammered 34 sixes in just 12 innings.

Innings – 13, Runs – 403, HS – 61, Average – 50.37, SR – 136.61

Surprisingly, Rohit Paudel ended up as the top run scorer for Nepal in T20I after scoring 403 runs from 13 matches. He completed four half-centuries in the year 2023. He also played a knock of 61 runs in a record-breaking match against Mongolia.
