Nepal Cricket Team receives government backing for T20 World Cup preparation

The Nepal government has earmarked NRs Five Crore (378k USD approx.) to support the preparation of the Nepal Cricket Team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Nepal qualified for the T20 World Cup after ten years having previously played the mega event in 2014. They finished second in the Asia Qualifier, earning the qualification for the upcoming event in the USA and the West Indies.

CAN expressed gratitude to the Nepalese government for this initiative, emphasizing that the backing and collaboration of both the Government of Nepal and the National Sports Council will play a crucial role in the overall development and expansion of Nepali cricket.

“During the World Cup Qualifiers’ final, the Honorable Prime Minister inquired about our requirements and assured the government’s full support. Subsequently, two weeks after the selection, we presented a comprehensive plan through the National Sports Council”, CAN secretary Paras Khadka said to HamroKhelkud. This has immensely assisted our team in gearing up for the World Cup. We extend our gratitude to the government,” he remarked.

We’ve strategized to establish a camp shortly before the commencement of the World Cup in the USA. Considering the high costs in the USA and the West Indies, the provided support will enable us to arrive 2-3 weeks in advance for thorough preparation. Additionally, it will facilitate the organization of the ongoing series and the engagement of consultants,” explained Khadka.

The T20 World Cup 2024 starts on June 2. Nepal is placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
